This presentation will provide an overview of the Doctrine of Christian Discovery and its impact on Indigenous communities past and present. For sustained peace, a broader historical understanding of the injustices that continue to bring harm to millions of people within the borders of the United States is needed. The Great Lakes Peace Center advocates for peaceful social change. We will discuss strategies for supporting First Nations peoples.

Deb Nedeau has worked in a variety of positions in the area of education and social work. She has worked for 30 years as a presenter, educator and workshop facilitator. 

Kathy Vanden Boogaard has worked in a variety of school and community agencies as a counselor/therapist for over 30 years. She has experience facilitating workshops for students and adults, grant writing, project implementation and evaluation.

Amber Neely is a third-year law student at Wayne State University Law School and a member of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Registration is required and begins Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 10am, closing one hour before the program starts. The Zoom meeting link and password will be emailed to registered participants prior to the program. See below for technical requirements.

The event includes a live Q&A session after the conversation and as many audience questions will be addressed as time permits. If you have questions ahead of the program, please enter them into the registration form when you sign up or submit them on this form in advance of the program and we will do our best to have your question(s) addressed live during the event.
