Join HCDL Director Holly Ward Lamb on a journey of discovery and self-reflection through monthly book club discussions as we explore issues of social justice, including racism, whiteness, feminism, queer rights, and more.

This month we will discuss the book The Leavers by Lisa Ko.

According to the publisher, "Set in New York and China, the Leavers is the story of how one boy comes into his own when everything he's loved has been taken away--and how a mother learns to live with the mistakes of her past." The Leavers is the winner of the PEN/Bellwether Award for Socially Engaged Fiction, Asian Pacific American Award for Literature, and the New York City Book Award, is a National Book Award Finalist, and was named a Best Book of the Year by Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, and NPR.

Reserved copies of the month's selected book will be available for registered participants to borrow from digitally and physically through the Library. If you wish to get the book (whether electronic or print) through the Library, please indicate so when you register and we will contact you to arrange that.
