Heroes to Hives with Dr. Adam Ingrao

Heroes to Hives with Dr. Adam Ingrao Online

After suffering a career-ending injury in 2004, while serving active duty in the US Army, Adam Ingrao found himself a disabled vet at 25. In the subsequent years, Ingrao struggled with opioids (prescribed by the VA), depression, and the guilt associated with leaving his military family in a time of war. This all changed when he found beekeeping.

Hear Adam’s story and the stories of others who have transitioned from the military and have used beekeeping as a modality to support personal and financial wellness. Discover how these experiences led to the formation of the Heroes to Hives program at MSU Extension and learn about the current program that has served nearly 1,000 veterans and their dependents in the last 5 years.

Dr. Adam Ingrao is the Veterans’ Liaison for Michigan State University Extension and the Michigan State Co-Coordinator for the USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program. He holds a BS in Agriculture and Environmental Plant Science from California Polytechnic State University and a PhD in Entomology from Michigan State University.

A fourth generation Army veteran and nationally recognized veteran’s advocate, Dr. Ingrao has led efforts across the nation for the last decade to connect veterans with career and wellness opportunities within the agricultural sector, and has served previously as the Executive Director of the Veterans in Agriculture Network and the Farmer Veteran Coalition of Michigan. As the founder and instructor of the MSU Extension Heroes to Hives program, Dr. Ingrao leads the largest ag training program for veterans in the US.
