National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day In-Person

Tuesday, September 22, 2020 is National Voter Registration Day and the Howell Carnegie District Libaray is celebrating by offering voter registration assistance in person at the Library!

Voter registration assistance will be available on Tuesday, September 22 during our regular open hours, 10am-6pm, in the Public Computer Lab.

Am I eligible to vote?

To be eligible to register to vote you must be:

  • A Michigan resident (at the time you register) and a resident of your city or township for at least 30 days (when you vote)
  • A United States citizen
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison

Do I have to wait until September 22, 2020 to register to vote?

Absolutely not! You can register to vote online anytime with the Michigan Online Voter Registration System. Do it today! Or at least by October 19th, 2020, so you can vote in the next election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

You can also register in person at your local city or township clerk's office. You can find the address and hours for your local clerk at the Michigan Voter Information Center - all you need is your address. You can register at any time up to 8pm on Election Day (November 3, 2020) at your city or township clerk's office - neat!

I think I am already registered. How can I check?

Click here to confirm your registration and find your polling place.

I would like to vote absentee.

First, confirm that you are registered. (If you are not sure if you've already applied for an absentee ballot, take a peek in the upper right hand corner, under Absentee Ballot, when you're confirming your registration.) Then, click here to apply for an absentee ballot online.

Don't forget about the deadlines for the next Election Day! Requests for an absent voter ballot must be received by your township or city clerk no later than 5pm the Friday before the election - Friday, October 30, 2020 for this upcoming election. If you're already registered at your current address, you can request an absent voter ballot in person at your clerk's office anytime up to 4pm on the day prior to the election - that's up to 4pm on Monday, November 2, 2020.

If you're registering to vote or updating your address by appearing at your clerk's office on Election Day (November 3, 2020), you can request an absent voter ballot at the same time you register. If you request your absent voter ballot the day before the election or on Election Day - on November 2, 2020 or November 3, 2020 - you must vote the ballot in the clerk's office.

I am coming on September 22 to the Library for voter registration assistance. What should I bring with me?
