Wingspan game with HCDL In-Person

Teens in grades 6-12 can register to learn & play the game Wingspan, a competitive bird-collection, engine-building game for 1-5 players with Howell Library staff and a few other teens. We will be using Zoom & Tabletopia, over the Internet, to play Wingspan. This series will include a tutorial and gameplay assistance as well as time to play the game.  Though we will be using Zoom, only the voice/audio component will be required for those unable or uncomfortable with video.  See requirements below to see what you need before registering.

This group will meet & play for a series of 3 times: Monday, June 8, Wednesday, June 10 & Friday, June 12, at 3pm for about 60-90 minutes.

Registration is required and will begin at 10am on Monday, June 1. and end 3pm on Saturday, June 6.
Space is limited; a minimum number of 3 registrants is needed by 3pm on Saturday, June 6; if the event fills, please register for the waitlist so we can contact you if additional times are added or email youth@howelllibrary.org .  Please register each individual that will participate. Each participant needs a device that can run the 2 applications simultaneously (see requirements).

Requirements:

  • We will be using Zoom & Tabletopia, over the Internet, to play Wingspan. In addition to needing internet access and a device, please download the software applications for both Zoom and Tabletopia on the device you will be using ahead of time. Only the voice/audio component of Zoom will be required for those unable or uncomfortable with video. When registering, please indicate if you would like HCDL staff to help run a “technology check” beforehand with you.
  • Please test the capabilities of your device ahead of time to ensure that bandwidth and processing speed is adequate for gameplay while both applications are running. When registering, please indicate if you would like HCDL staff to help run a “technology check” beforehand with you.
  • This event is for students entering grade 6-12 in the fall. Please register each individual that will participate; we are registering by individuals, not families/groups.

What is the Wingspan game about?

You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations (actions) in one of your habitats. These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:

· Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower

· Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors

· Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them

· The winner is the player with the most points after 4 rounds.

Rules for Wingspan can be found here.
