ArtConnect: Marigold Shibori Bandanas

ArtConnect: Marigold Shibori Bandanas In-Person

Presenter Kristan Green, owner and creator of the Natural Dye Company, will demonstrate to participants the shibori technique and how to make a natural dye bath using marigold flowers. Participants will leave with a gorgeous golden yellow cotton bandana!

Shibori is a "resist" technique manipulates textiles using string, folding, bunching, or binding to prevent sections of the object from being dyed and has been in use since the 6th century. The results look similar to tie-dye. Traditional Japanese shibori uses indigo dye to produce a deep blue color, and modern dye artists use a wide range of dyes, including natural dyes. If you want to know more about how to create your own natural dyes, check out some of our resources here!

Although not a messy process, please wear clothing you are comfortable possibly staining or bring a smock or apron.

ArtConnect is an opportunity to connect with local artisans and other community members to share the joy of art and try out new techniques and projects. Every other month, local artisans will guide you through a featured art project. Supplies will be provided for the featured project. For the months without a featured project, ArtConnect will serve as a Pop-Up Makerspace and provide the opportunity to use our space for your crafting desires and try out new equipment!
