“I am MLK, Jr.,” a free film screening and panel discussion at the Historic Howell Theater In-Person
As part of our MLK 101 Series, the Howell Carnegie Library, in partnership with the Livingston Diversity Council and Huron-Clinton Metroparks, is bringing a free community screening of the 2018 documentary film “I am MLK, Jr.” to the Historic Howell Theatre. This documentary explores the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his impact on civil rights through the present day. Following the film, we will hear from expert panelists representing academia, grassroots activism, and what the fight for civil rights looks like today.
Panelists include:
- Victoria Burton-Harris, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office
- Dr. Patricia Coleman-Burns, Assistant Professor Emerita of Nursing and Black Studies, University of Michigan
- Anthony Lewis, Director of Community Engagement, Michigan Department of Civil Rights
Freelance journalist Jon King will moderate the discussion. The film is not rated, but we recommend ages 13 and up due to the language and content.
No registration required. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with a show time of 7:00 pm. The panel discussion runs 8:45-9:30 pm.
